Red Devil Basketball

Game 2:  Saturday, November 21, 2015

After a 45 minute delay because San Jon's bus broke down, the Springer boys met the Coyotes on our home court. The game began with both teams playing competitively. However, by end of the first half, it was clear the Red Devils would dominate the game. By end of the fourth quarter, the Red Devils won the game, 81 to 48. Great job Red Devils.

game 2

Game 1:  Friday, November 20, 2015

Springer Red Devils
defeat Santa Fe Waldorf, 64-63. With 4/10 of a second left in the game, Estevan Romero went for a lay-up and was fouled by Waldorf. At this point in the game, Springer was behind by one point. Estevan Romero, with two free throws to make, went to the free throw line and made both points. This put Springer ahead and they won the game.
Congrats to a game well played Red Devils!

Volleyball Girls

The Springer Lady Devil volleyball team made history at the New Mexico State Volleyball Tournament. This was the first time the Lady Devils played in the state championship game. They started the tournament out on Thursday afternoon with pool play where they came out the number two seed. They played the Des Moines Demons Thursday night they won in a close three set match. The Devils advanced to the quarterfinals where they would beat Grady in three sets at Cleveland High School. The girls then advanced to the semi-finals, which hadn't been done by a Red Devil volleyball team since 2009. The Lady Devils kept the streak on fire, beating Corona in three sets. The Lady Devils then advanced to the championship game for the first time in our school's history. The Lady Devils came up short in the final game, losing to the Elida Tigers, but the Lady Devils left the Tournament proud and feeling accomplished.

Springer Lady Devils District Champs;  next up, State.

The Springer Lady Devil varsity volleyball team swept District 5-A after winning the district championship this past Friday. They beat the Des Moines Demons in a quick three set match. The Lady Devils came out strong in the first set, beating the Demons 25-18. During the second set, the Devils played tensely and nervously, allowing the Demons to keep the score close. But the Lady Devils came out on top, beating the Demons by a small margin of 25-22. In the third set, Springer went on a scoring run, getting a lead of 12-3. But the Demons didn’t give up and kept fighting throughout the whole set. The Lady Devils were determined to win, and did just that with a score of 25-16. This win made the Lady Devils the District 5-A Champions, and gave them high hopes for the upcoming State Volleyball Tournament. This is the second year in a row the girls have won the district championship. They will travel to Albuquerque on Thursday, November 12, 2015, to compete in the tournament. The Lady Devils are ranked number eight in the state, and will compete against Elida and Victory Christian in pool play Thursday afternoon. The Des Moines Demons will also be competing at the state tournament as the number ten team in the state. The Lady Devils assistant coach, Maria Gonzales, talking about the state tournament stated:

“There are a lot of strong athletes competing, but getting the chance to play on that court is an honor. I hope to make sure the girls are mindful of that every step of the way, and that they are aware that they deserve to be there. This is the moment they have worked all season for, and it’s their moment to shine. It is our time.”

The State Championship is to be held on Saturday November 14, 2015, in the Santa Ana Star Center.
