Hugo Hernandez and Adrian Urquijo to Compete in National Welding Competition

Adrian and Hugo

Hugo Hernandez and Adrian Urquijo will be attending the annual High School Welding Competition on the 20th of February in Tulsa, OK. These two SHS students qualified from a small number of spots available nationally. They will be competing with others high school welders from around the country

TWS holds an annual High School Senior Welding Competition, looking for the best high school senior AG students in the country. This yearly event is a great way to showcase welding skills and win tuition scholarships to attend Tulsa Welding School. Last year over $120,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded.

The competition is open to High School Seniors who have taken a welding class in high school or at a vocational technical institute. The grand prize is a full tuition scholarship to Tulsa Welding School, with partial tuition scholarships going to the top runner-ups.

Good luck to Hugo and Adrian!

Estevan Romero Breaks State 3-point Record

(in his own words)

On Saturday afternoon January 16th I broke the state three-point record with 15 three-point baskets. The previous record was 14, set by Springer’s own Isaiah DeHerrera in 2009, and I beat it by one 3-pointer basket. It’s an honor and a blessing to achieve this record. This record would not be achieved without my family, friends, fans, coach, and of course my teammates. The feeling I had on the court after getting the record is unexplainable with all my teammates, fans, and my coach going crazy on the side. It’s a great feeling knowing that my teammates had the confidence to trust me and also no jealousy, just all for each other. The funniest thing I’ll remember is once I hit the 15th three pointer all the guys on the bench did the famous dance move called the “dab.”  All hard work does really pay off.  If you work hard enough for something and put your mind to it you will achieve greatness.
